random notes
Sat Sep 17 2005 11:11 MDT #Today we walked around modern Istanbul. Lost my glasses at some point today. They were in my eyeglass case and somehow left my purse. However, we managed to find a place that read my prescription off my sunglasses and they will have my new glasses ready for me on monday afternoon. So in just two days. I have my sunglasses in the meantime so I will be like Roy Orbison for a few days.
I also learned that pom-pom is a universal word. At least it is the same in English as in Turkish. There were some necklaces at Yagici, a trendy clothing store that had pom-poms on them. I got to bond with one of the girls working there over that one.
Random Note: Stores that seel the same item all stick together here. Wholeblocks of bookstores. Blocks of music stores (dad you will like that) selling guitars and synthesizers. blocks selling TV satellite dishes. I didn't find the block selling all eyeglasses, but there were two on the same block. The Grand bazaar is like this as well - streets with just cleaning supplies, streets with just spices, etc.
Now i am tired on laying on the bed, wearing my sunglasses.
Oh yeah. Turkish baklava is GOOOOD! Turkish delight, not so much. I think I need to find some high quality turkish delight perhaps. I may have just had the crappy stuff so far.
Also, they sell big mounds of henna powder at the markets here.
