birthday, cats.

Last week I didn't really feel up to celebrating my birthday since Pounce had just died the night before. So it was fortunate that most of my presents arrived a few days later - after I stopped feeling upset every other minute. In fact, for the last week almost, have been receiving packages every day.

Nathan got me a Muvo, a little red MP3 player which I've been taking to the gym this week. My mom, step-dad and sister sent me lots of cool stuff from my Amazon wish list - a book on tiny japanese houses, a French Kitty smartskin, How to Eat and How to be a Domestic Goddess both by Nigella Lawson, and an iPod mini armband. Which made me think maybe a Mini was on the way - but alas, they thought I had a Mini! Nathan's mom sent me some cool summer dishware from C&B - bright pink and orange bowls, plates, a tray and glasses. And yesterday I got this cool recycled pocketbook from Nathan's sister brooke - made from old billboard vinyl. Plus I know that I have another package to look forward to from my dad... So I may not have had the best birth-day, but my first week of being 28 is improving.

Also, I just realized that the older I get, the younger my age seems. I used to think 28 was old, but now it seems nice and young. I don't know if this will hold when I turn 30. I'll let Nathan tell me when it happens to him.

It is still hard to not have Pouncer around anymore - I had to take the picture of him and me off of my computer desktop yesterday because it makes me too sad. But I am lavishing Thor with extra love and attention, and I am really glad I have him around- to have no cats would be just too sad right now. He is really getting the hang of wearing the leash and harness.

Although yesterday we had him tethered out in the yard, and both Nathan and I went away for a minute. I walked outside, saw the leash was gone. Then I saw it running along the stone wall, towards the roof. But no kitty! Turns out he was hanging by his harness off the stone wall. He looked hilarious actually, Which was great, because I have been very afraid of this happening and finding a strangled kitty - but the harness holds him very well, like a little rock climber. However, we need to be careful to keep an eye on him at all times in those situations - his potential for getting tangled is too great.
