remembering pounce

how his paws were white, and so the little pads on his feet were pink, except for one that was black because he had a little black patch of fur there.
Pouncer asleep - on his back, with all fours in the air, all askew and just so totally relaxed.
The way he would greet me when i got home from work by dropping to the ground, rolling in the dirt, and laying on his back to get his belly rubbed.
How smart he was - he figured out how to open both doors with his teeth and paws.
The day that Pounce jumped through the shower while Nathan was showering. Pounce jumped through the shower to the windowsill. He hated getting wet, but he REALLY wanted Nathan's attention.
The way Pounce would sleep in these secret protected spots. He loved sleeping in my hanging closet, snuggled way back in my clothing.
The way he sat so quietly in the car when I drove to Santa Fe with him once. He would sit at my feet, but way back by the chair , alongside the door, far away from the pedals.
The way he would just sit on our faces at night occasionaly - just lie down on our face. Or on Thor occasionally.
How cuddly he could be at night.
Watching him jump off of the stone house's roof, onto the stone fence and run inside when I would call him.
How soft the white fur on his chest was.
The day he sat on the skylight and we started playing with him through the roof.
How much he made me laugh when Thor and Pounce were little kittens , playing crazily in the house. They climbed up my curtains, played through the curtains, ran up and down the ladder.
How much he liked the mouse toy I hung from the ladder. He would sit on the ladder, precariously balanced, and capture the mouse. Then he would walk off with the mouse, set it down, which promplty made it bounce back to its original position, because the mouse was on an elastic cord.
How he would scratch the floor near his wet food occasionally, I guess this was his way of telling me that it tasted like shit. Picky!
The way the kittens would vie with each other to sleep as closely as possible to me, before Nathan moved back. They would come and rest their heads on my shoulders when I turned out the light, laying as close as possible to my face. It always made me feel happy to get that much attention from the kitties, but it did make it hard to fall asleep sometimes. :-)
Pounce was the first of the two kitties to switch loyalties completely to us - I think the little kids at his "real house" threw things at him. Occasionlly thor would spend some time at the other house, but Pounce seemed to prefer us entirely.
How protective he was of us. We used to leave the back door open at night. but one night Pounce suddenly dashed down the stairs growling loudly, and chased a stranger cat outside.
Pounce also was a tough little kitty at a young age. He would make much larger cats back off from his fierce growling and his lack of fear.
