Brilliant Decemberist's lyrics: I espeicaly love one song, called Mariner's Revenge. but yesterday I became quite enamoured of the Sporting Life. The Sporting Life takes place over a time span of say one minute. A football player just got hurt on the field, and we are hearing thigns from his poitn of view. Like:

There's my father looking on
and there's my girlfriend arm in arm
with the captain of the other team
and all of this is clear to me
they condescend and fix on me a frown
how they love the sporting life

And I like this part:

but while I am lying here
trying to fight the tears
I'll prove to the crowd that I come out stronger
though I think I might lie here a little longer

Just a little longer. This guy is way too intellectual to be a football player anyway, he'll be happier with his nose in the books at Harvard or something.

Other song I like is Mariner's Revenge Song, also on the Picaresque album: it starts off with this:

We are two mariners
Our ship's sole survivors
In this belly of a whale
It's ribs are ceiling beams
It's guts are carpeting
I guess we have some time to kill

And then there is the chorus or refrain or something, sung by the high-pitched voice of the Mariner's dead widowed mother. She'd be the one who married the other sole survivor, a debauched sailor who left her consumptive and broke from his gambling debts. She sings about torturing the guy, basically, breaking his fingers and such. But it comes across as too mean with out her voice to temper it, so I won't quote the lyrics here.

One of the best parts is when the whale eats the ship - the singing starts to become, echo-y, like, well like they are in a whale. excellent song. I'm sure you will all love it.
