PowerBook

Mon Feb 6 2006 12:27 MST #

Nathan and I started dissecting my comatose PowerBook last night. We pulled it apart with little damage, except I ripped off an Enter key from the keyboard incorrectly, but it was this weird place for an Enter key that I have probably never used in my life, so we'll just glue it back on if we get the computer working again.

After we ripped the case apart we shined the maglite at the computer looking for where it was damaged . But we didn't see any.The theory now is that the CPU or Power supply is bad. That is the region where the water all poured out of - the water poured out of the ports, and the power supply, and the CPU is right near those ports. The CPU is hidden by this huge metal cover so we couldn't see if it was OK without undergoing another serious round of excavation. The mother board, hard drive, RAM, etc, all looked fine. Nathan might go at it again later today. If we spend 600 bucks fixing it, it will still be a good deal.

My new laptop isn't due to ship out until Wednesday and I won't even get it for another week at least. Too bad, cause I like hacking on the bus ride to work. And I miss lazing around on the couch with my laptop, even if it did make my butt sore after 12 hours of that in a row. Plus Thor snuggles with whomever is working on the couch, so Nathan's getting all the love these days.
